Derek McInnes, now Rangers manager, has received a four-match touchline ban, with one suspended, for criticizing match officials while in charge of Hearts. The remarks were made after a late penalty decision favored Celtic against Motherwell in the penultimate fixture of last season, a game McInnes felt unfairly impacted Hearts' title challenge.

McInnes described the penalty award, made on the advice of VAR official Andrew Dallas to referee John Beaton, as "actually quite disgusting." This ban means he will miss Rangers' season opener against Dundee United on July 31st, live on Sky Sports, as well as subsequent Premiership and League Cup matches. The suspended match will be activated if he breaches the same rule again before the season's end.

This incident follows a similar ban for former Motherwell player Elliot Watt and a fine for Motherwell itself, all stemming from breaches of disciplinary rule 72 regarding criticism of match officials. McInnes's comments were particularly pointed regarding the handball decision that ultimately led to a final-day title decider.
