Chelsea are considering a late move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez. The Argentina international's representatives have offered Martinez to Chelsea, whose current No 1 goalkeeper Robert Sanchez came under criticism after his error in Monday's win at Fulham.

Martinez needs to find a new club after Villa signed Zion Suzuki from Parma for nearly £30m. Argentina's World Cup-winning goalkeeper was the subject of interest from Juventus but they chose to sign Guglielmo Vicario from Spurs.

Martinez has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the game during his time at Villa, who he has played 256 times for since joining from Arsenal in 2020. At Villa, he won the Europa League in May of this year, whilst also helping the team into two Champions League campaigns under Unai Emery.

Martinez has been crucial for Argentina's recent success too, winning the World Cup in 2022 and finishing as runners-up in the 2026 edition. He also won two Copa America trophies in 2021 and 2024, as well as the Finalissima in 2022. Sky Sports' Paul Merson said Martinez is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
