Wardley: Davison's Inside Knowledge Could Aid Joshua

Fabio Wardley has suggested that trainer Ben Davison could help Anthony Joshua with "some inside knowledge" ahead of his heavyweight showdown with Tyson Fury at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on December 11. Davison has previously worked with both fighters and will be in Joshua's corner on fight night.

Wardley, the former WBO heavyweight champion who also works with Davison, said a trainer's past work with people is a huge factor going into a fight. "There will be some inside knowledge, however applicable that is and however it's used in the fight, maybe, maybe not," he told Sky Sports News. "You play to their strengths, not to the opponent's weaknesses."

Fury had called Davison a "traitor," but former world champion George Groves disagreed. "Of course he's not. He's worked with almost all the heavyweights," Groves said, adding that Fury likely left Davison rather than the other way round. Groves also believes Joshua made the right call in bringing Davison back after recently working with Oleksandr Usyk's training team. "Sometimes if crisis hits you want to have a familiar voice," he said.

The bout will also carry the WBA 'super' heavyweight world title. Wardley, who faces Daniel Dubois in a rematch on Saturday, said the fight is worthy of a world title, while questioning whether the fighters' rankings justify it. He hopes to earn a fight against the winner by defeating Dubois at The O2.
