Sam Burns takes a two-shot lead into the final round of The 154th Open after a third-round 65 at Royal Birkdale lifted him to 10 under. Playing alongside Bryson DeChambeau, Burns mixed six birdies with a lone bogey to edge ahead of Ryan Fox and Si Woo Kim.

Fox earlier capitalised on benign conditions to post an eight-under 62, joining Burns and overnight leader Lucas Herbert in equalling the lowest major round in men's history. Herbert scrambled a closing par for a one-over 71 to share fourth with Ryan Gerard.

DeChambeau responded to a two-shot penalty from the previous day with a one-under 69, briefly moving within two of the lead before a final-hole bogey dropped him four strokes back. The past major champion is the only major winner inside the top 10.

Tommy Fleetwood slipped five back after late bogeys, defending champion Scottie Scheffler sits six adrift following a level-par 70, and Rory McIlroy trails by eight. Final-round coverage begins Sunday at 8am on Sky Sports Golf.
