Katie Boulter stunned world No. 7 Jasmine Paolini with a 6-0 first-set demolition at the Merida Open, but couldn't maintain momentum as the Italian rallied for a 0-6, 6-3, 6-3 quarter-final victory. The British No. 2 took just 28 minutes to win the opening set, with Paolini failing to hit a winner until trailing 5-0.

Paolini, the former French Open and Wimbledon finalist, broke Boulter's serve at the start of the second set and capitalized on the Briton's errors to level the match. Despite Boulter breaking straight back to love, Paolini's confidence grew as she reeled off four consecutive games in the deciding set. The Italian admitted after the match that Boulter was "smashing every ball" in the first set, forcing her to adjust her strategy by playing deeper and hitting harder.

Elsewhere on the tour, Daniil Medvedev advanced to the Dubai Tennis Championships final with a dominant 6-4, 6-2 victory over top seed Felix Auger-Aliassime. The third seed will face unseeded Tallon Griekspoor in Sunday's final, aiming for his second Dubai crown after winning in 2023. Meanwhile, Indian Wells announced wild cards for Bianca Andreescu, Sloane Stephens, and Venus Williams for the BNP Paribas Open starting March 4.
