Ben White Returns to England Squad as Harvey Barnes Joins for Friendlies

Arsenal defender Ben White receives his first England call-up since November 2022, replacing the injured Jarell Quansah in Thomas Tuchel's squad for friendlies against Uruguay and Japan. Harvey Barnes earns inclusion in place of Eberechi Eze, barely a month after turning down Scotland for England. White's return follows a complicated history; he left the Qatar World Cup camp after a bust-up with Steve Holland and declined a Southgate call-up ahead of Euro 2024. Tuchel first spoke to White in February before his return more than a year later.

Barnes, a 28-year-old Newcastle winger with one previous England cap, had qualified for Scotland via his maternal grandparents but now focuses solely on England. Both players were called up as Tuchel's initial 35-man squad left only three full-backs available after withdrawals.
