The Bangladesh Cricket Board has urged Pakistan to abandon their planned boycott of the February 15 T20 World Cup match against India in Colombo. Bangladesh was removed from this year's tournament after refusing to tour India due to political tensions, with Scotland replacing them as last-minute additions. Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi previously warned of a complete tournament withdrawal before government intervention.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the boycott decision was made to support Bangladesh, though meetings between the International Cricket Council, BCB, and PCB took place over the weekend to seek resolution. BCB President Md Aminul Islam expressed appreciation for Pakistan's support while requesting they play the match for the benefit of the entire cricket ecosystem. All of Pakistan's World Cup matches will be played in Sri Lanka, including potential semi-finals and final.

Should Pakistan proceed with the boycott, they will forfeit points from their group stage match against India. The ICC remains committed to Bangladesh as a core cricketing nation despite their absence from the tournament. ICC chief executive Sanjog Gupta emphasized ongoing work with stakeholders to ensure sustainable growth of the sport in Bangladesh and strengthen future opportunities for players and fans.
