Sri Lanka Urges Pakistan to Reconsider India Match Refusal

The Sri Lankan Cricket Board has formally requested that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reverse its decision to not play India in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The highly anticipated Group A match, slated for February 15th in Colombo, faces uncertainty. This follows Pakistan's government's stance, citing support for Bangladesh's rejected request to relocate their games due to safety concerns.

Bangladesh's request to move their matches from India was denied by the International Cricket Council (ICC), leading to their replacement by Scotland in the tournament. Last year, India refused to travel to Pakistan, resulting in matches being moved to the United Arab Emirates. The ICC is now seeking a resolution, but no agreement exists. The demand for tickets for the India vs. Pakistan match was extremely high.

Sri Lanka, co-hosting the tournament, emphasized their preparatory efforts and the existing close relationship between the two boards. The stakes are immense, given the financial and competitive importance of an India-Pakistan fixture. The T20 World Cup is a major event. The ICC is responsible for resolving the situation.
