McLaren's Lando Norris set the pace on day one of Formula 1's Bahrain pre-season test, posting a best lap of 1:34.669 to top the timesheets. The 2026 season opener preparations continued with teams evaluating new regulations including increased electric power and recharge modes. Max Verstappen (+0.129s) and Charles Leclerc (+0.521s) completed the top three.

Williams dominated the mileage charts, completing 145 laps - more than any other team. Red Bull (136 laps) and Ferrari (132 laps) followed in the distance rankings. The test features 18 drivers across Thursday's sessions, with teams rotating their line-ups throughout the four sessions. Notable participants include rookie Kimi Antonelli for Mercedes and established stars like Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez.

The Bahrain test marks the first of three pre-season sessions before the Australian Grand Prix on March 6-8. Teams have two weeks between tests to analyze data before the second Bahrain test from February 18-20. With new technical regulations introducing more electric power and different engine suppliers, this week's running provides crucial early indicators of competitive balance ahead of the season opener.
