Arsenal actively chasing signings after Guimaraes debut

Mikel Arteta says Arsenal are actively looking for more new signings in the transfer market but admits there is only a small pool of available players who can take them to the next level. The Gunners were frustrated in their attempts to land Vinicius Junior, who chose to sign a new contract at Real Madrid, and also missed out on Morgan Rogers.

Arsenal completed the £75m signing of Bruno Guimaraes on Saturday, with the Brazil international making his first appearance in Wednesday's friendly against Como. Arteta said: "There is more that we want to do because every time we have an opportunity to improve the squad and bring more quality and depth, we need to do that. We are actively trying to do so."

Arteta added: "For the margins to improve, there are very few players in the market that are available to do that and bring that to the club." He declined to discuss wage structure impact, stating that is a question for sporting director Andrea Berta.

The Arsenal boss was pleased to hand Guimaraes a debut and said he could be in contention to start Sunday's Community Shield against Manchester City.
