Motherwell have appointed Alfred Johansson as their new manager following Jens Berthel Askou's departure to Toulouse. The Swedish coach inherits a squad that secured fourth place in last season's Scottish Premiership and earned qualification for the Conference League preliminary round against Faroe Islands side Havnar Boltfelag.

Johansson outlined his tactical vision centered on high intensity, tempo, and building attacks from the back. He praised the existing foundation at Fir Park, noting the squad ran training sessions independently during his early observations. The former Rosenborg manager believes Motherwell's strategic direction allows continuity regardless of coaching changes.

Askou's year-long tenure ended when Ligue 1 opportunity arose, creating this vacancy. Johansson, 35, recently relocated to Scotland with his pregnant wife, calling it a family decision. His only previous Scottish experience came during a 2017 coaching course where he watched Motherwell defeat Rangers 2-0 at Hampden Park.

That cup semi-final victory convinced Johansson of Motherwell's potential. Now he aims to consolidate last season's achievements while adding his own tactical imprint to push the club forward in domestic and European competitions.
