Alec Stewart has dismissed speculation linking him to a role in England's post-Ashes rebuild, stating there's no position available to accept or decline. The former England captain returned to his duties as Surrey's director of cricket after caring for his late wife and has been named president of the Cricketers' Trust.

Stewart emphasized his focus remains on Surrey and England's success, avoiding direct commentary on potential involvement in the ECB's ongoing review of their Australian tour. The review examines tour planning, individual performance, and behavioral issues following damaging reports of excessive drinking and insufficient preparations during the Ashes campaign.

Stewart takes over the Cricketers' Trust presidency from David Graveney, leading an organization that provided £489,000 in mental health support to 239 current and former players over five years. He highlighted the trust's work supporting families like that of Graham Thorpe, his former team-mate who died by suicide in 2024. Stewart stressed the importance of education and encouraging players to seek help, noting that asking for support demonstrates strength rather than weakness.
