Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic have both withdrawn from the Mutua Madrid Open due to injury concerns. World No 2 Alcaraz continues to recover from a wrist injury that forced him to retire from Barcelona, while Djokovic is still dealing with a lingering shoulder problem that has kept him out of recent tournaments.

Alcaraz, who received medical attention during his first-round victory in Barcelona, expressed deep disappointment about missing his home tournament. "Madrid is home, one of the most special places on my calendar," he shared on social media. The 21-year-old Spaniard's absence means Jannik Sinner will likely be the top seed at the French Open and could claim the world No 1 ranking through Wimbledon.

Djokovic, 38, announced his withdrawal from Madrid after skipping recent events in Miami and Monte Carlo. The 24-time Grand Slam champion is racing to recover for the French Open, where he'll pursue a record 25th major title. Britain's Jack Draper also faces fitness concerns after retiring with a knee injury in Barcelona.
