World Cup FanFest Canceled at Liberty State Park

The New York/New Jersey World Cup host committee has canceled its planned fan festival at Liberty State Park in Jersey City. The weekslong event, which would have been held about 15 miles from MetLife Stadium where the final will take place on July 19, has been scrapped just months before the tournament begins.

Originally announced in February 2025 by Tammy Murphy, the festival was intended to showcase all 104 matches of the expanded tournament starting June 11. Instead, the committee will now focus on an expanded network of fan zones and community celebrations across 21 counties in New Jersey. Governor Mikie Sherrill announced a $5 million initiative Thursday to fund these alternative community World Cup initiatives.

While the Liberty State Park plans fell through, other fan experiences are A fan festival is now scheduled at the U.S. Tennis Association's Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens from June 17-28, and a fan village will operate at Manhattan's Rockefeller Center from July 4-19. Fan fests with large video screens have been a World Cup tradition since 2006, providing accessible viewing options for those without match tickets.
