Former Netherlands international Mark van Bommel has been appointed as the new head coach of Belgium's national team, succeeding Rudi Garcia. Garcia's departure was confirmed after his contract ends on July 31, following Belgium's World Cup quarterfinal appearance.

Van Bommel, who previously managed PSV Eindhoven, VfL Wolfsburg, and Royal Antwerp FC, expressed his ambition to build a disciplined, ambitious, and brave team. His coaching success in Belgium includes a league and cup double with Antwerp in 2023, their first league title since 1957.

As a player, Van Bommel represented renowned clubs such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and AC Milan, and was part of the Netherlands squad that reached the 2010 World Cup final. Belgian FA sports director Vincent Mannaert voiced confidence in Van Bommel and his assistants, Boudewijn Zenden, Maarten Martens, and Reinier Robbemond, citing their motivation and international experience to elevate the team's performance.
