Smoke from Canadian wildfires engulfing the Northeast is expected to mostly clear from the New Jersey area ahead of the World Cup final on Sunday. Meteorologists state that passing thunderstorms will "sweep the atmosphere clean," improving air quality from unhealthy levels to "moderate" in East Rutherford.

At MetLife Stadium, heavy rain and thunder forced state police to urge people to seek shelter. The storms also suspended a training session for Spain ahead of their final match against Argentina. FIFA remains in close contact with local authorities to monitor field conditions at the open-air venue.

Senior meteorologist Tyler Roys of AccuWeather noted that while some faint haze may linger, the thickest smoke will be gone. Temperatures are forecast to be around 80°F, with light breezes and low humidity. Heavier smoke is expected to remain concentrated over the Midwest and Great Lakes region, where hundreds of active fires continue to burn.
