Sevilla's Almeyda Suspended 7 Games for Referee Clash

Sevilla coach Matías Almeyda has been suspended for seven matches by the Spanish football federation after a heated confrontation with officials during his team's 1-1 draw against Alavés. The Argentine manager was sent off late in the match and subsequently clashed with the referee, leading to multiple disciplinary violations.

According to the federation's disciplinary committee, Almeyda received three matches for contempt and disregard for the referee, two for complaints to the officiating crew, one for not immediately leaving after his red card, and another for conduct disregarding public order. Almeyda remained on the field questioning the decision before eventually departing.

The suspension is a significant blow for Sevilla, who called the punishment "excessive" and announced plans to appeal. This marks Almeyda's second sending-off this season, having been dismissed during a match against Real Madrid at the Bernabéu in December. The ban will keep him sidelined during a crucial stretch of LaLiga fixtures, beginning with Sevilla's upcoming match in Getafe where their top-flight survival hangs in the balance.
