Giovanni Reyna expressed being "fortunate" and honored to receive a USMNT call-up despite limited playing time at Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 23-year-old winger has logged just 26 minutes in 2024, making his selection for friendlies against Belgium and Portugal surprising. Reyna aims to secure a spot on his second World Cup roster after featuring in 2022, despite recent form and injury struggles.

Reyna acknowledged the difficulty of maintaining match fitness without regular club action. "I think it's always easier when you're playing week-in and week-out," he stated. Despite limited minutes, Reyna impressed in November internationals with a goal against Paraguay and an assist versus Uruguay. Manager Mauricio Pochettino continues to show faith in the player, with whom Reyna claims to share a "great relationship."

The talented winger has moved past his controversial 2022 World Cup behavior that nearly led to his early departure. Reyna was later named Concacaf Nations League MVP in 2023-24. "We've taken a lot from the last World Cup," he reflected, noting how the squad has grown collectively since many players were in their early 20s during the previous tournament. The USMNT begins Group D play on June 12 against Paraguay.
