Parma parted ways with coach Carlos Cuesta on Sunday after winning only one of their opening five Serie A matches. The club said Cuesta "has been relieved of his duty" and that "following an internal discussion between the club and coach, it was agreed that the conditions in order to continue this working relationship and the advancement of the sporting project, were not being met. Both parties came to a mutual agreement." A replacement was not immediately named.

Parma beat Genoa last weekend but only have four points. Cuesta became the youngest manager in Europe's top five leagues, and the youngest Serie A manager in almost a century, when he was appointed by Parma in June 2025 at the age of 29. He had previously spent five years as assistant to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Having decided at a young age that his future lay in coaching rather than playing, Cuesta was given his first chance at Atlético Madrid with their underage teams and after four years there, went travelling Europe to study coaching methods. It was during this period that Cuesta met Arteta, then part of Pep Guardiola's coaching staff at Manchester City, and after a two-year spell with Juventus' youth academy, Cuesta joined Arsenal in 2020. He guided Parma to a 13th-place finish last season.

It's the third coaching change in Serie A this season after Paolo Vanoli replaced Fabio Grosso at Fiorentina and Raffaele Palladino replaced Domenico Tedesco at Bologna. Parma's next match is at Serie A champions Inter Milan on Oct. 10 after the international break. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
