Co-hosts Mexico defeated Australia 1-0 in their final World Cup warm-up, with Johan Vásquez's 28th-minute header proving decisive. The match at the Rose Bowl stadium drew 78,479 fans as Mexico dominated the opening half against the world No. 15 side. Australia improved after the break but fell short despite strong second-half pressure.

Australia coach Tony Popovic named an experienced lineup with Mathew Leckie and Harry Souttar making their first starts since late 2024. The game erupted into an all-in scuffle when Mexico's quick free kick led to a disallowed goal in the 76th minute. Young defender Lucas Herrington impressed alongside Souttar in the back three.

The Socceroos head to their Bay Area base before Popovic announces his World Cup squad on June 1. Australia's next test comes against Switzerland in San Diego on June 6 as final preparations continue for the tournament.
