Melbourne Victory have secured Giovanni Savarese as their new A-League Men head coach on a two-season deal. The 54-year-old replaces Arthur Diles and brings experience from South America, Europe and the United States. Savarese previously coached New York Cosmos to three NASL championships in 2013, 2015 and 2016 before spending five-and-a-half seasons with MLS side Portland Timbers.

Victory chairman John Dovaston called the appointment a bold direction that adds international experience to the club. Managing director Caroline Carnegie highlighted Savarese's attacking philosophy and success in a competition similar to the A-League. As a player, Savarese earned 30 caps for Venezuela and scored 10 international goals during stints across multiple continents.

The coaching change comes amid significant roster turnover across the league. Western Sydney Wanderers have parted ways with Alou Kuol, Josh Brillante, Kosta Barbarouses and Bozhidar Kraev among others. Central Coast Mariners have also released Nathan Paull, Miguel Di Pizio and Christian Theoharous, despite their contributions to the club's historic treble in 2023-24.

Savarese arrives with clear ambitions, stating he felt a strong connection to the club's vision from initial conversations. His mandate is to rebuild Victory into contenders for major honours, though the squad requires significant restructuring given recent departures across multiple A-League clubs.
