Wales centre-back Tom Lockyer has agreed a deal to join A-League club Melbourne Victory, marking his first move abroad after a career spent entirely in England. The 29-year-old arrives following a 16-game season with Bristol Rovers in League Two, his first competitive football since collapsing on the pitch during a Premier League match for Luton Town in December 2023.

Lockyer spent five years at Luton, captaining the side to promotion via the 2023 play-off final and making 14 top-flight appearances before his cardiac arrest. After being fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, he was cleared to return last year and chose a short-term stint back at his boyhood club Bristol Rovers to rebuild match fitness.

The defender earned 16 caps for Wales, featuring at Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup, with his last appearance coming against Turkey in June 2023. He has stated he has not abandoned hope of a recall under Craig Bellamy.
