Manchester United have appointed Michael Carrick as their permanent head coach on a two-year contract running until 2028, with an option for an additional season. The 44-year-old former England midfielder has been rewarded for his impressive interim tenure, guiding the club back into the Champions League after taking charge in January following Ruben Amorim's dismissal.

Carrick has overseen 11 wins from 16 matches in charge, transforming United's fortunes and restoring Champions League football to Old Trafford. The appointment comes as Pep Guardiola prepares to leave Manchester City, potentially shifting the balance of power in Manchester. United are also finalising deals to retain key assistants Steve Holland and Jonathan Woodgate as part of Carrick's backroom staff.

Speaking about the opportunity, Carrick reflected on his 20-year connection with the club: 'From the moment I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United.' Director of football Jason Wilcox praised Carrick's leadership and the positive culture he has built at Carrington.
