LaLiga Plans U.S. Regular-Season Game Despite Past Setbacks

LaLiga president Javier Tebas announced plans to revive efforts to stage a regular-season match in the United States, three years after a controversial Miami game was canceled. Speaking at the Financial Times Business of Football Summit in London, Tebas said the league would 'try again' to bring Spanish soccer to American fans, though he didn't specify timing.

A proposed Barcelona-Villarreal match at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium in December 2023 was scrapped due to opposition from clubs, players, and fans who argued it compromised competition fairness. Tebas defended the concept, comparing it to the NFL and NBA's international games, and noted that moving one match out of 380 in a season wouldn't damage the league's integrity.

Tebas also addressed Manchester City's ongoing financial charges case, criticizing the uncertainty created by the delayed ruling. The league chief suggested that such prolonged proceedings damage institutional credibility and create unnecessary instability for clubs facing allegations.
