Negotiations between Real Madrid and France defender Ibrahima Konaté have accelerated and are approaching completion, with a source telling ESPN that a four-year contract and substantial signing fee are essentially finalized. The 27-year-old center-back departed Liverpool as a free agent this summer after failing to agree on a new deal with the Premier League side.

Konaté's desire to remain at Anfield ultimately fell through despite interest from several European powers. Real Madrid moved quickly once his availability became clear, beating out Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Saudi clubs who had also registered interest in the former RB Leipzig man. His switch to the Spanish capital completes a significant defensive reinforcement for Carlo Ancelotti's squad.

The Paris-born defender would reunite with several France teammates already established at the Bernabeu, including Kylian Mbappé, Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga. Having joined Liverpool in the summer of 2021, Konaté now prepares for a new challenge in La Liga while representing Les Bleus at the upcoming World Cup.

This transfer represents Real Madrid's continued strategy of targeting proven Premier League talent, with Konaté offering Champions League experience and international pedigree to strengthen their backline ahead of next season's competitions.
