Real Madrid have secured defender Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer, with the Liverpool centre-back set to join on July 1 after his contract expires. Konate, 27, leaves Anfield following five years and 183 appearances that included Premier League and FA Cup triumphs.

Jose Mourinho has moved quickly in his second spell at the Bernabeu, adding Konate alongside Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella. The £51.8m Cucurella signing from Chelsea marked a clear shift toward proven talent, with Konate representing experience over potential.

Real Madrid's strategy now targets ready-made players rather than young prospects. Cucurella, 27, is the first signing over 25 for more than £2m since Eden Hazard's arrival in 2019. Denzel Dumfries, 30, is also lined up for £17m from Inter.

Konate's departure leaves Liverpool seeking defensive reinforcements while Mourinho builds a squad capable of immediate impact in LaLiga.
