Real Madrid sealed the signing of Ibrahima Konaté on a free transfer after his Liverpool contract expired. The 27‑year‑old defender will stay until 2030, filling the void left by David Alaba. The move adds depth to a squad that already welcomed Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva for the upcoming league battle.

Konaté’s arrival follows a €20 million agreement to bring Inter Milan right‑back Denzel Dumfries to the Bernabéu, as part of a broader overhaul under new manager José Mourinho. The Frenchman will compete with Antonio Rüdiger, Dean Huijsen, Raúl Asencio and Éder Militão for a starting spot in the centre‑back line.

Konaté joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig for £40 million in 2021 and amassed 183 appearances, winning the FA Cup, two Carabao Cups and the Premier League title. He was an unused substitute in France’s recent World Cup opener, a 3‑1 win over Senegal, highlighting his status as a top‑class centre‑back player.

With Mourinho’s return and a trio of new signings, Real Madrid aims to rebound from two trophy‑less seasons. Konaté’s defensive solidity and experience will bolster the backline, while his free‑agent status keeps the club’s wage bill in check. The squad now looks sharper for the European campaign in this season.
