Julian Nagelsmann is out as Germany head coach after the defending champions crashed out of the World Cup to Paraguay in the round of 32. Germany's 4-3 penalty defeat marks a third straight disappointing exit, following group stage failures in 2018 and 2022. The German Football Association confirmed they will open talks with Jürgen Klopp to take charge of the national team.

Nagelsmann took over in September 2023, becoming Germany's second-youngest coach at age 36. He guided the team to the Euro 2024 quarterfinals and signed a contract extension through Euro 2028 in January 2025. Despite this recent commitment, the embarrassing loss to Paraguay sealed his fate. DFB president Bernd Neuendorf praised Nagelsmann's commitment and ambition while confirming the coaching change.

Klopp has been out of management since leaving Liverpool in 2024, taking the Red Bull Head of Soccer role in January 2025. Working as a World Cup analyst for Magenta TV, Klopp acknowledged his name being mentioned but emphasized it's not the right moment for discussions. He stated he enjoys his current position and Germany's elimination requires focus elsewhere.

This represents a major shift for German football after years of underachievement. Klopp's potential appointment brings hope for revitalizing a program that has consistently fallen short of expectations despite its talent-rich squad.
