Julian Nagelsmann has resigned as Germany head coach following their stunning World Cup last-32 defeat to Paraguay on penalties in Boston. The 38-year-old stepped down after talks with German Football Association officials on Thursday, ending his tenure that began in September 2023.

Sky Germany reports that Jurgen Klopp is ready to assume control of the national team. The former Liverpool manager currently serves as head of global soccer for Red Bull Group, with his contract containing a specific exit clause for the Germany position.

Nagelsmann led Germany to the Euro 2024 quarter-finals where they fell to eventual champions Spain. At the World Cup, Germany topped Group E on goal difference after thrashing Curacao 7-1 and edging Ivory Coast 2-1, before losing to Ecuador 2-1 in the group stage.

Despite declaring he doesn't run away from challenges, Nagelsmann acknowledged changes were needed. Germany's early exit represents a significant decline for a nation that won the 2014 World Cup, leaving fans questioning the direction of the national program.
