Toronto FC is finalizing a $22 million transfer for United States forward Josh Sargent from Norwich City, sources confirmed to ESPN. The deal could rise to $27 million with incentives, making it one of the largest MLS transfers in history. Sargent traveled to Toronto on Friday to complete his medical.

The transfer follows a contentious saga that began in December when Sargent sat out a match after initial talks broke down. Sources indicate Sargent was upset by comments made about his family during a meeting with Norwich's sporting director. The forward, who scored seven goals in 23 league matches this season, hasn't featured for Norwich since January.

The acquisition represents Toronto's latest move in a significant rebuild.
