Alexander Isak marked his Liverpool debut with a stunning brace, scoring twice inside nine minutes to secure a 2-0 victory over Ipswich. The Sweden international, who completed a British-record £125 million ($170m) transfer from Newcastle United, endured an injury-plagued first season at Anfield with only four goals in 22 appearances. However, his quickfire double on Friday signaled a fresh start under new boss Andoni Iraola.

Isak's goals gave Iraola his first win in three attempts, with the manager praising the striker's determination despite his slow start. "It was not easy. It was a long injury, a difficult season in general," Isak told Sky Sports. "I was thinking: I want to have a good World Cup firstly and then to start the season well, which I feel like I've done now." Cody Gakpo provided both assists, benefiting from Liverpool's decision to block late deadline-day moves from Tottenham and Manchester City. Meanwhile, France international Bradley Barcola, who joined from Paris Saint-Germain for £123 million ($166m), made his debut as a 64th-minute substitute.
