FIFA president Gianni Infantino has lost the confidence of UEFA after a plan to sell a 20 % stake in a new World Cup company to private investors was rejected by three confederations. UEFA announced a boycott of FIFA competitions until the proposal is scrapped, citing lack of transparency and secrecy.

The plan involved establishing FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) to manage commercial aspects of the World Cups, with 5 billion dollars in reserves and a promise of an extra 20 million dollars for member associations. The proposal was opposed by the AFC and CONCACAF, leading to calls for an urgent review of FIFA’s decision‑making processes.

Swiss adviser Carlos Cordeiro resigned, while Kevin Lamour called the project a unilateral exercise of power. UEFA will work with associations worldwide to restore trust, emphasizing that the money in FIFA’s bank should be used to support grassroots football in the 211 member nations.

Infantino remains determined to rebuild unity, but the future of his presidency is uncertain as elections DOS next March.
