Erling Haaland scored twice in Manchester City's 2-0 Champions League victory over FC Porto, reaching 59 goals in 59 matches. The feat put the Norway striker level with Sergio Agüero as City's leading scorer in Europe's top competition, with 36 goals, and moved him to 7th on the all-time Champions League scorers list. Enzo Fernández, making his City debut after a joint-British record transfer from Chelsea, called Haaland an "animal" and a "beast." For his first goal, Haaland converted a close-range finish from Fernández's cross.

For his second, he redirected a stoppage-time pass from Rayan Aït-Nouri. Porto became the 22nd different team Haaland has scored against in the competition. Despite Porto's goalkeeper Diogo Costa denying Haaland several chances in the first half, City maintained their perfect start to the season.

New coach Enzo Maresca praised the win away in a difficult atmosphere. Haaland added that the team must learn to meet manager demands and win trophies at Manchester City.
