Villarreal goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi missed his team's Champions League game against Napoli on Tuesday because of an armed home invasion at his house, the club said.
The club confirmed the incident as the reason for the goalkeeper's absence from the squad for the match. Details of the invasion were not included in the club's statement, and it was not clear whether anyone was harmed.
Gulácsi is one of the most experienced keepers in the Villarreal squad, and his unavailability left the team with a changed goalkeeping option for the fixture. Coaching staff had to adjust their selection to cover the position on short notice.
The club asked for privacy for the player and his family while the matter is handled. Further updates were expected from the club and local authorities.
