Pep Guardiola will step down as Manchester City manager this summer, the club confirmed on Friday. The 55-year-old will take charge of his final game against Aston Villa on Sunday before ending his trophy‑laden ten‑year tenure at the Etihad Stadium. He invoked a break clause in his contract, which ran to June 2027, and will become a global ambassador, giving technical advice to clubs within the City Football Group later.

He departs having amassed 20 trophies, among them six Premier League crowns, three FA Cups, five League Cups, a Champions League and a Club World Cup. Highlights feature the 2023 domestic‑European treble, the 2019 domestic treble and the record‑breaking 100‑point league campaign in 2018. City’s season ends with a cup double, but a seventh league title slipped after a 1‑1 draw at Bournemouth.

City’s board has already linked former Tottenham coach Enzo Maresca with the vacancy. CEO Ferran Soriano called Guardiola’s impact “extraordinary” and said historians will judge its true weight. Without the architect of the club’s modern identity, Manchester City must now rebuild and find a new formula to stay still competitive.
