Maldini confirmed Guardiola was 'very tempted' and 'came very close to accepting' the role, even drafting lineup ideas. Reports claiming Guardiola demanded €20 million were denied by Maldini, who stated the coach asked for 'one euro less than the last coach was making.' Ultimately, Guardiola declined due to fatigue from ten grueling years at Manchester City, including back surgery. Maldini also disclosed he contacted Ancelotti, who remained committed to Brazil.
