Diaz Red Card Appeal Denied Despite Ref's Admission

Bayern Munich's appeal to overturn Luis Díaz's one-game ban has been rejected by the German football association's sports court, even after referee Christian Dingert admitted his decision was incorrect. The Colombian forward received a second yellow card for diving during Bayern's 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen, where he also scored the team's only goal.

Dingert reviewed the incident in a postgame TV interview and acknowledged he had missed contact between Díaz and goalkeeper Janis Blaswich. The referee stated the second yellow card was 'very harsh' and that he wouldn't make the same call if given another chance. Despite this admission, the sports court ruled that the decision wasn't 'completely wrong' because Díaz had been seeking contact with the opposition goalkeeper.

The court chairman Stephan Oberholz emphasized that only decisions 'gravely, clearly and without any doubt objectively incorrect' can be overturned. This ruling means Díaz will miss Bayern's upcoming match against Union Berlin, dealing a blow to the team's attacking options as they continue their Bundesliga campaign.
