Powder Springs, Georgia, sits roughly 26 miles west of State Farm Arena, a diverse community where Asa Montgomery, a 6-foot-6 swingman, made his college decision. After intense contemplation, Montgomery chose Duke over North Carolina, LSU, Georgia Tech, and UConn. The senior, ranked No. 7 in the SCNext 100, wanted to personally inform coaches he turned down, following his father's advice to handle the process with maturity.
His mother encouraged him to live in the moment. Montgomery balanced the decision with academic challenges, acing his Honors Government test on Constitution and Declaration of Independence. He faced constant questioning from classmates, comparing the experience to Jesus Shuttlesworth.
With a sit-down interview and documentary pending, Montgomery prepares to announce his choice at 1:30 p.m., ready to embark on his next chapter.
