Former Spain defender Joan Capdevila has made it to the United States to watch the World Cup final after being denied entry a decade ago for an exhibition game in Iran. U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed that it received a request to allow Capdevila into the country and, after review, he arrived in the U.S. on Sunday.

Capdevila had publicly addressed Donald Trump in a social media post, stating his visa‑free application was denied. He also sent a message to Marco Rubio and tagged the Spanish Ministry of Sport. In 2010, Capdevila helped Spain win its sole World Cup title, starting in the final against the Netherlands, and he was part of the squad that captured the 2008 European Championship.

Spain will face Argentina at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with Capdevila’s countrymen hoping to secure a second World Cup. Lionel Messi and Argentina aim to repeat as champions, which would mark the country’s fourth win at FIFA’s premier tournament.
