Rodri: Spain Must Raise Level vs Argentina in World Cup Final

Spain captain Rodri says the team must raise its level for Sunday's FIFA World Cup final against defending champion Argentina at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This is only Spain's second World Cup final appearance, built on Nations League (2023) and European Championship (2024) titles. "We've been gradually growing," Rodri said. "We have to keep doing the same things."

Spain has conceded just one goal in seven games, outscoring opponents 13-1 since an opening draw with Cape Verde. The run includes a 2-0 semifinal win over France and late goals from Mikel Merino against Portugal and Belgium. Goalkeeper Unai Simón has made nine saves. Rodri, the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, insists Spain can adapt to any style.

Concern surrounds 19-year-old Lamine Yamal, photographed with Lionel Messi as a baby in 2007, after he appeared with his left thigh wrapped. Coach Luis de la Fuente downplayed worries: "Today he participated in training... he is fine." De la Fuente said Yamal must "be Lamine," not the next Messi. The coach's only nerves? The helicopter ride back to New Jersey.
