Belgium's Doku Out for Iran Clash with Respiratory Issue

Jérémy Doku will miss Belgium's World Cup match against Iran on Sunday due to a lingering respiratory problem. The Manchester City winger was ruled out by the Red Devils on Saturday, with coach Rudi Garcia confirming Doku's unavailability during his pre-match news conference at So Fi Stadium in Inglewood.

Doku started Belgium's tournament opener against Egypt and played 86 minutes in the 1-1 draw. He reportedly left practice early during the week due to breathing issues before that match. Garcia said the medical staff decided to take extra precautions to help Doku recover, though he declined to specify the exact nature of the illness.

The 22-year-old has also drawn attention for saying he would leave the team if needed for his first child's birth in early July. Meanwhile, Romelu Lukaku appears set for another substitute role despite being Belgium's career goals leader. Garcia said Lukaku still cannot play a full match after missing most of last season at Napoli with a hamstring injury.

Belgium sits 10th in FIFA rankings and needs a win against Iran to control their group destiny. They face New Zealand in their final group match on Friday, with a potential round of 16 clash against the United States looming on July 6 if both teams advance.
