Talks between Real Madrid and Rodri have stalled in recent days, multiple sources told ESPN, with Barcelona monitoring the situation as they consider a move if negotiations break down. Madrid's interest in the Manchester City star — who has a year left on his contract and won the 2024 Ballon d'Or — has not developed into an agreement, and pessimism is growing at the club.

Sources close to Madrid now believe Barça are emerging as serious rivals for the 30-year-old Spain captain. However, a Barcelona source said the club has made no formal offer, with priority remaining a centre-forward such as Atlético Madrid's Julián Álvarez. Still, Barça believe Rodri would fit Hansi Flick's system, especially with Frenkie de Jong injured, and the player is open to joining either La Liga giant.

Madrid are willing one last effort, but Rodri has concerns that coach José Mourinho was not fully convinced about his signing.
