The 24-year-old Melbourne City product, a World Cup hopeful, would become the second Socceroo on NYCFC's roster, joining former teammate Aiden O'Neill. The transfer fee is reportedly a seven-figure sum (AUD).

This move is logical for both parties. Trewin, a central defender who has also played holding midfielder this season, gains a direct pathway to the MLS and a higher profile ahead of the 2026 World Cup. For Melbourne City, the sale continues a busy January window as they reinforce their title-defending squad.

NYCFC, a City Football Group affiliate, finished fifth in the 2025 Eastern Conference and reached the conference finals.
