Juraj Slafkovsky made NHL playoff history, scoring a hat trick including the overtime winner as the Montreal Canadiens stunned the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 in Game 1 of their first-round series. The 22-year-old fired a slap shot from the left circle past Andrei Vasilevskiy 1:22 into overtime, converting Montreal's third power-play opportunity of the extra period.

Slafkovsky became the youngest player in league history with a hat trick in a postseason opener, surpassing Wayne Gretzky who was also 22 in 1983. He also became the first player in NHL history with three power-play goals in any postseason game, including an OT winner. "I kind of saw some open space there," Slafkovsky said. "I decided to shoot it, and thankfully, it went in."

The Lightning entered the series heavily favored but now trail 1-0 heading into Game 2 Tuesday at Amalie Arena, where Tampa Bay has lost eight of its last nine home playoff games. Montreal is seeking its first playoff series victory since 2021 and first Stanley Cup since 1993.
