The Buffalo Sabres acquired defensemen Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn from the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night, addressing their blueline needs ahead of the NHL trade deadline. The Sabres sent forward prospect Isak Rosen, defenseman Jacob Bryson, a 2027 second-round pick, and a fourth-round pick to Winnipeg. The Jets retained 50% of Schenn's contract in the deal.

Stanley, 27, brings size and offensive upside to Buffalo's defense corps. The 6-foot-7 defenseman posted a career-high 21 points in 59 games this season while averaging 17:12 ice time. Schenn, 36, provides veteran leadership and defensive stability. The well-traveled blueliner has won two Stanley Cup championships with the Tampa Bay Lightning and has played for five teams since 2021.

The trade comes after the Sabres' failed pursuit of Colton Parayko from the St. Louis Blues. General manager Jarmo Kekalainen had agreed on a framework for that deal, but Parayko exercised his no-trade clause. Rosen, Buffalo's 14th overall pick in the 2021 draft, was a key piece heading to Winnipeg. The 22-year-old right wing has shown promise with 43 points in 37 AHL games this season.
