St. Louis Blues forward Alexey Toropchenko left their season-opening victory at Dallas with an apparent shoulder injury early in the second period Friday night after being hit by two Stars players behind his own net. After the Blues' 4-0 win, coach Jim Montgomery said Toropchenko was sore with an upper body injury and was "more than day-to-day." Montgomery said the team didn't yet perform an MRI, but expected to know more Saturday, when the Blues play in Colorado.

Toropchenko initially took a hard check from defenseman Lian Bichsel, and while the forward was going toward the boards took another shot from the side from Tyler Seguin. Torophchenko immediately grabbed at his upper right arm as he was falling to the ice. After being initially examined on the ice, Toropchenko was hunched over in obvious pain while bracing his arm going down the tunnel toward the locker room with about 16½ minutes left in the second period.
