Aaron Rodgers said he had hoped the Steelers' preseason opener against the Packers would be in Green Bay, not Pittsburgh.

"100%," Rodgers told Packers reporters. "When I heard it was possible to play both my former teams, I was really hoping this one was going to be in Green Bay, not just to get back at Lambeau Field one more time, but to head out to Chives for dinner and maybe Green Bay Country Club for a quick nine."

Rodgers spent 18 years with the Packers before being traded to the Jets in 2023, then signed with the Steelers in 2025. He played against Green Bay last season in Pittsburgh, losing 35-25. He said he was "bummed out" the game wasn't at Lambeau.

Rodgers acknowledged that a future return to Lambeau for an honor is possible — his Hall of Fame induction or number retirement — but said "there first has to be an invite back." He spoke fondly of Green Bay: "The thing that actually lasts longest is those people that impact your life."
