Diggs' brief stint ends a costly experiment. The Packers inherited his five-year, $97 million contract but cut him without salary cap hit, as the deal had no remaining guaranteed money. They paid him roughly $500,000 to avoid his $14.5 million 2026 base salary, a logical financial move given his limited 2025 production.

His release addresses a key offseason priority. Green Bay's cornerback depth was tested by injuries, and Diggs—who led the NFL with 11 interceptions in 2021—failed to make an impact in 2025, logging zero pass breakups or interceptions in eight games for Dallas. The move frees up resources to address a critical need.
