Packers must lean on MarShawn Lloyd amid Jacobs arrest

The Packers entered OTAs under a cloud after running back Josh Jacobs was arrested on five domestic‑abuse counts, including a felony. With Jacobs facing possible NFL discipline, Green Bay can’t rely on him and must look to third‑year back MarShawn Lloyd to stay healthy. Lloyd has logged only ten snaps in two seasons, all in a 2024 Week 2 loss to the Colts.

Coach Matt LaFleur watched Lloyd take zero 11‑on‑11 reps on Wednesday, identical to last season, while he participated only in individual drills. Running backs coach Ben Sirmans said Lloyd feels stronger in his lower body after a grueling rehab that included groin, hamstring, calf and hip injuries plus a bout of appendicitis. The team hopes that newfound strength translates to consistent game‑time work.

Green Bay’s roster offers little depth beyond Jacobs, Lloyd, Chris Brooks and rookie Jaden Nixon; former No. 2 rusher Emanuel Wilson departed for Seattle, leaving the Packers with no clear backup. LaFleur warned Lloyd must “prove it” over OTAs, camp and preseason before the team can trust him to shoulder a full season workload. The running‑back room remains thin, forcing the Packers to gamble on a once‑injury‑plagued talent.
