Nixon's Starting Role Uncertain for Packers

Deep into training camp, the Green Bay Packers’ future at cornerback remains uncertain, with Keisean Nixon not guaranteed a starting role. Despite a Pro Bowl alternate nod last season, coach Matt La Fleur and assistants emphasize open competition. Nixon said, "I just keep my process and just compete – for real." He notes he can only control his own effort, having risen from the bottom to become a full‑time starter.

$5 million this season puts him on the lower end of the starting cornerback pay scale. Last year he led the NFL with 15 pass breakups but also led all defensive backs with 13 penalties. His play was questioned after a missed tackle in the playoff loss to the Bears and a preseason opener against the Steelers.

The Packers drafted Brandon Cisse at No. 52 tvy and signed veteran Benjamin St‑Juste, while Carrington Valentine’s hamstring injury stalls his return. Nixon remains in camp, arguing he "can’t really run me off."
